It has been a week of continuing to settle back into routine and getting to grips with the increased responsibility of Grade 2. All while surviving the sweltering heat and being on typhoon-watch!
We dived straight into our first unit (How we organize ourselves) by going for a walk around the campus in search of all forms of technology. In groups, they recorded their observations. The central idea of the unit is that technology influences how people work together and connect with each other. The stop at the school office proved the most exciting as Mr Inman gave them a special look at some of the tech that is used to run the school. One of the students even got to use the school intercom and share an impromptu message across the campus!
Over the course of the week, the students learned that technology is not only electronic or battery-operated devices but that it is the science or knowledge behind how things work in every day life. We even had an interesting class discussion about the (hypothesised) evolution of the toothbrush!
We ended off the week by getting into our finding out stage by doing research on some tech devices and concepts, and we will continue with this next week.
For our first week of PE lessons with Ms Itzi and Mr Brabant, the students took part in activities with a focus on teamwork. The activities were designed to encourage communication skills and listening skills amongst the students. They enjoyed the tasks and did well with starting to lay down the foundation of what teamwork is comprised of.
All in all, it was a good week two of Grade two!
Have a restful, and safe weekend!
Your homeroom teacher,
Ms Theona
