Sharing the Planet

This week we started our new unit under the transdisciplinary theme, Sharing the Planet. Our central idea is "Learning about extinction helps us prevent the loss of things we value."

Throughout this unit, the students will inquire into different extinctions that have occurred, the causes of extinctions and the impact that extinctions have on our lives.

This week, the students did a gallery walk of a variety of animals, which they later learned are animal species that have gone extinct. In groups, the students attempted to unscramble our central idea. We also dug deeper into what particular terminology associated with extensions mean.

We ended off the week by starting to do research about the animals that we encountered on our gallery walk.

Have a wonderful weekend everyone,

Culture Week

In Grade 2, we enjoyed a full week of exciting and interactive activities. We concluded our How the World Works unit about space this week, by completing our paper mache solar systems.

The students painted their celestial bodies and video recorded the final footage of the end result, for their InShot videos. They enjoyed using their creativity to edit their videos about the process, based on the tools they learned about in the InShot application.

"Diversity doesn't look like anyone. It looks like everyone."
- Karen Draper

We celebrated a school calendar favourite this week, Culture Week! We kicked off the week by making flags and mapping our home countries. The students enjoyed doing a video quiz about the different cultures in our school. The following day, we had some of our knowledgeable parents who presented interesting and interactive cultural activities to the students. We ended off the week with the cultural parade and picnic, followed by a few international performances.

The students not only showed excitement to show off their cultures, but they also showed great interest in learning about each other's cultures. While making flags, the students requested to listen to all the national anthems of the nationalities represented in our class. They exhibited endearing international-mindedness by showing respect and appreciation towards the many cultures embodied in our school.

Have a wonderful Spring break everyone! 🌸🌸🌸

Paper mache planets and World Book Day

Another busy week of learning and building took place in Grade 2 this week!

Paper mache solar system

Excitedly, the students have been using their creative crafting skills to create paper mache models of celestial bodies in our solar system. A messy, but fun time in the Grade 2 classroom! The students have completed the moulds, and they will complete the painting detail in the coming week. Using skills learned in their IT lessons, the students have been recording and editing video about the process behind making their paper mache planet.

Posture class with Mr Didier

The students were very excited to take up the challenge from Mr Didier, to see which class will take the prize as Spring Posture Masters. They did several activities which involved dynamic movements, which challenged their balance and muscle tone. Great fun, and learning was had by all the students. Thank you, Mr Didier, for reminding us to be mindful of our posture!

Visit from Germany Expo 2025 team

We were fortunate to receive a visit from the team responsible for putting together the German pavilion at the Osaka Expo 2025. The cherry on top was the opportunity for the students to meet the expo mascot, Myaku-Myaku!

International Book Day

We had a wonderful day celebrating books and the gift of reading! In the cosiest of pyjamas, and with their favourite book (or two) in hand, the students had an inspiring time together. Bookmarks were made, crossword puzzles completed and buddy reading enjoyed. The students were also treated to a reading carousel from some of our Lower and Upper Primary teachers.

We look forward to the many Cultural Week activities next week, along with bringing our How The World Works unit to a close by completing our paper mache planets.

Wishing you all a wonderful weekend,
Ms Theona
